Japanese Stone Sulpture by Susumu Ikegami
Aftermath
of the Dream
This
work is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Monument. In the Kamidaira
Mura district (where the defeated Heike clan settled) there is a traditional
musical instrument known as the sasara. The sculpture has been
created in a form reminiscent of this instrument. One can sit upon it
and, gazing across at the traditional A-frame dwellings of the village,
envision the past as captured in the famous Basho poem.
